Are You Being Held Back By Your Back Pain?
At Alpha Physiotherapy we know how debilitating back pain can be. Daily discomfort, sharp shooting pains, stiffness, numbness or even burning pains – all of which are often related to back pain – can have a huge impact on your life!
If you’re currently suffering with back pain, it is tempting to think that your symptoms are nothing and within a few days they will go away on their own with a bit of rest. Or perhaps you pass it off as having ‘slept awkwardly’, or that it’s normal for ‘my age’.
One thing is certain though – you don’t know what’s happened and worse…..it’s just not going away.
Rest assured that you are not alone. In fact, back pain and sciatica is the most common problem that we see in our Physiotherapy clinic in Martlesham, Ipswich. Countless clients visit us each week with the same frustrations and often there is no obvious reason as to why it started.
From our experience over the years, we have seen that when it comes to living with back pain, people generally want to know why they have back pain, and why after several months (often longer) it is still there.
We see how, in the search to find answers, many people visit Doctors for advice and are prescribed painkillers and strong muscle relaxants – and are then told to “see how it goes”.
But this is rarely the best advice and several weeks later people return to be prescribed even stronger pain medication and advised to rest further. These painkillers have huge side effects, mask the pain and without having solved the problem, result in more stiffness and less ability to do the simple things you could before.
The truth is:
The pain isn’t going to go away on its own, and the pain medication is actually detrimental. It is this cycle of pain – medication – pain – medication which becomes increasingly frustrating, and culminates in loss of joy and excitement, loss in social life, family life and a reduction in health.
Many people turn to YouTube or ‘Dr Google’ search for the answers to their problem, but with the vast amount of information available nowadays it is difficult to find the right information – and worse still, a lot of the information is harmful.
Why does back pain last longer than it should? Well, it is easy to get confused with so many different explanations, from different people. It’s difficult to find the right information for your problem, with lots of people out there who are happy to dispense advice – but not all of it is credible.
If you are not an expert on the topic, back pain can be very confusing and because of this people end up accepting the pain as ‘part of life’ and before long six months, maybe longer, has passed and the pain remains.
Maybe your pain was caused by sleeping awkwardly, moving suddenly or lifting something heavy. But the likely reality is that it is caused by a number of factors including poor posture, muscle weakness and improper movement – and the lifting or sudden movement was just the effect of that.
At Alpha Physiotherapy we understand how you have gotten to where you are today. We are specialists and know there is a way to get rid of your pain. Read on to find out more.
If You Are Currently Living With Back Pain, Here’s 6 More Reasons Why It Could Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:
1. You Waited For The Pain To Go Away, Resting It For A Long Time,
Yet the pain is now back with a vengeance and you are now stiffer, less mobile and certainly less happy.
2. You Visited The GP To Be Prescribed Painkillers.
Yet once they wore off the pain returned and it is now making your health suffer and making you feel low in mood.
3. You’ve Stop Doing Your Normal Activities And/Or Have Been On Light Duties At Work.
Yet it is still not getting better, and now you are weaker and stiffer than you were before.
4. You Have Tried Some Massage Hoping It Would Fix The Pain, Which Was Relaxing.
However it didn’t do anything in the long term to fix the issue.
5. You Now Believe Your Pain Is Age Related, As “Everyone Gets Back Pain At Some Point”.
Which simply isn’t true.
6. You’ve Tried Other Healthcare Providers.
But nothing they said or did seemed to help resolve the problem long term.
If any of these have happened to you, we would love to help you by inviting you to book a call to talk to one of our Physiotherapists to find out what can be done to help you. Remember, if you are able to identify that your back problem needs attention, it means you are already a step closer to fixing the issue.

“What Can I Do To Get Rid Of My Back Pain Quickly”
Firstly, You Must Make A Decision About Getting Help.
This is the most important thing to achieving your goal of a pain free life. It’s time to stop procrastinating, thinking back pain will just ‘go away’. It’s time to do something and the fact you are reading this is a fantastic start.
Next, Avoid Sitting For Long Periods Of Time.
Contrary to the belief that the back needs rest for long periods, moving more frequently throughout the day is the best way to start to get more movement and strength. Sitting in the same position for long periods makes the back stiff and tight. Don’t wait for the pain to start; be proactive and move regularly.
Do The Right Exercises.
It is the right series of progressive exercises that not only reduces your pain and gets you moving but ensures the pain does not come back. Additionally, regular general exercise will get you moving and improve your strength and flexibility, but also increase the “happy hormones” that your body releases during exercise. Gentle swimming, walking, cycling and Pilates can be great for this. We want you to be energetic, mobile and excited about life and our Physiotherapists are experts at providing the right exercises for you to achieve this.
