Timing Is Key

A sports massage can be done pre or post sporting events to either body prep and recovery! If you have a half marathon or important tennis match coming up, regular sports massage can be done in the weeks leading up to help keep the body injury free and help recovery after hard training sessions.

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

A hydrated body is a mobile body. Being hydrated before your massage will make the muscles easier to work with. Then keeping hydrated afterwards will aid the massage benefits and keep them going for longer.

Take A Rest

It is normal to feel a little tender during and/or after a sports massage if there are spots of tension that we have to work through. But mainly you will feel really relaxed, so to make the most of it and take a restful break afterwards to reap the benefits.

Recovery Is Just As Important As Training

It’s recommended to take rest days / times between workouts or training sessions to allow the body to recover. To boost recovery and help the body along its way, a sports massage can be used between training!

In short, anyone! Sporty/non-sporty people, the young and the old and anywhere in between!

It depends on what you do activity-wise and the reason for wanting a massage. If you are very active or training for a sporting event, every 2 weeks can be very useful to help prevent overload and injury.

Everybody would benefit from having a monthly massage, whatever the reason!
If you are

If you have sustained an injury, it is usually best to have a Physiotherapy appointment first to make sure that it is just your muscle that is injured and nothing else. In that appointment we can also give you appropriate exercises to do, which you would not receive in a massage appointment.
This depends on the type of massage and the reason for it. If we are trying to improve muscle tightness and there are lots of knots in the muscle, it may be uncomfortable. A relaxing massage should be exactly that, relaxing! Always communicate with your massage therapist what you are feeling as that will help direct their treatment.

A 30 minute appointment is best for routine and regular massage and if only one area of the body needs focus e.g. legs or neck/shoulders.

A 60 minute appointment is usually preferable for the first appointment or if more one than one area of the body needs attention. This is also better for a remedial massage.
